You may also be taught “coping statements” that you can say to yourself during an attack, such as, “No one has ever died from a panic attack.” or “This doesn’t feel great, but I can deal with it.” Doctors have also been known to advise patients to “float with the symptoms” (don’t fight them and instead go with the flow) and avoid “what-if” thinking by focusing on the present.
